How to travel to Kos?

Transportation in Kos

Every day throughout the summer season there are daily ferry boat trips (by fast catamarans) between Kos and Bodrum (Turkey).  The boats leave in the morning and return in the afternoon from each side.  The travelling time is only 20 minutes.

By Bus – (Public Transportation)

Mainly public buses are used for transportation in Kos. Bus routes and schedules can be found in the port of Kos and at the bus stations.

In Kos, the bus service is very well organized. You can reach a lot of regions of the island, with cheap tickets. You can take the public bus (KTEL) and reach the most distant regions of the island. The central station of the public buses is located in the centre, at Cleopatra Street

Taxi:

Taxi is one of the alternative transportation in Kos.  You can find taxis easily in the centre or in other regions (Kos Harbour, Asklepion and nearby to Castle), either at the taxi-stations, or by phone with the service of radio-taxi.

Motorcycles:

Motorcycles and scooters are popular in Kos.  There are many rental agencies which you can rent a motorbike in Kos.

Mini train:

In Kos, there are couple of small, wheel- driven tourist trains.  The Mini-Trains make roundtrips of Kos town passing all worth seeing spots. The train-stop is situated along the harbour.   Mini train operates everyday except Mondays.

Each tour lasts about 20 minutes and it is repeated every half an hour.  Here is the schedule:

From May to September: 10:00 – 14:00 historical sites.

18:00 – 22:00 Tour on main streets with music.

On October:                  10:00 – 18:00 Tour on historical sites.

Asklepion Mini Train tour: Every day except Mondays.  Duration time 15 minutes. (From 09:00 to 18:00)

By Sea:

Every day throughout the summer season there are daily ferry boat trips (by fast catamarans) between Kos and Bodrum (Turkey).  The boats leave in the morning and return in the afternoon from each side.  The travelling time is only 20 minutes.

Also, there are daily excursions to some Dodecanese Islands by ferry boats. The trips last about  12 to 16 hours, depending on your destination. This  ferry-line connects the islands of Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos, Kos and Rhodes.

Furthermore, there are daily excursions to nearby islands of Nisyros, Kalymnos, Fourni, Ikaria, Leipsi, Leros, Agathonisi, Astypalaia during the summer season.
